Posted November 13, 2018 13:36:22 Capriola Equestrian Club members in Cape Town on Wednesday evening locked down the club’s premises and evacuated the main gate to prevent the “most horrific possible” shooting.
The incident happened at the club in the Cape Town suburb of Garamba.
The club’s members were inside when they heard gunshots at around 11.30pm on Wednesday, police said.
Police evacuated members and staff at the main entrance, and the club is now in lockdown.
The shooting comes as the club and its supporters prepare to take part in the World Equestria Games, where Cape Town will host four of the world’s biggest equestria events.
In June, a gunman shot dead four members of the Cape Eagles team at a South African sporting venue, after a verbal dispute with a female member of the team.
Cape Town has a reputation for its equestration, where the sport attracts a wide range of athletes.
However, the sport has also been criticised for racial and religious violence, particularly from the black community.
