Key points:AAP Media has obtained documents from the AFL that show clubs in Australia and Asia are involved in a match fixing ring.
In a bid to combat match fixing, the AFL is launching a series of investigations across the world”It’s quite an extraordinary allegation,” AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said.
“It really puts us on the front foot and the club is on the frontline to fight against match fixing.”
The AFL says it will launch its own investigations into the allegations, which include allegations that the Australian Olympic Committee and a number of Asian football clubs are involved.
The AFL said it was aware of allegations that match fixing is occurring in the Asian football community.AAP understands a number Asian clubs are investigating the allegations and will be contacted if more information becomes available.
The Australian Olympic Commission has also confirmed it is investigating the allegation.
The ABC understands the Australian Football League is considering an investigation into the allegation as well.
However, a spokesperson said it did not intend to take a position on the allegations at this stage.
